For Newbies STOP IT

This is for my friend Julie, She inspired me to write this ...
I want to say this ... For all you newbies, and maybe not so newbies with lap bands . I have some advice for you that I think is very important, espically early on.
Since most of us are on www.lapbandtalk.com or know of it there are SO many people there.
So many different little " groups" to be in ect.
A big thing on there is to be on a group that was banded the same day, week , month ect as you were. As MUCH as I LOVE Lapbandtalk... let me give ya'll some advice. STAY AWAY FROM THOSE GROUPS or any other that will make you COMPARE yourself to ANYONE ELSE when it comes to weight loss.
They can be TOXIC for you . Why ? Let me give ya some reasons :
1. Weight loss in itself is so sparatic , everyone loses at a different pace
2. Add the BAND to it and it can either speed it up or slow it down
3. you are setting your self up to FAIL or at the VERY least be VERY VERY Dissapointed if you are going to compare yourself to someone else.
4. Be Happy . With what ? Losing. How much ? Just losing .

This is the thing , If your LOSING the band is working. If your LOSING your doing it right , if your LOSING your working the tool you got and for the reason you got it for.
If your LOSING YOU ARE SUCCEEDING !!!

If your losing 1-3 pds a week YOUR DOING FINE !! If you skip a week and do not lose , great your fine.
STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO SOMEONE ELSE YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER !
YOU have control over YOU , yourself and how YOU work YOUR BAND !!
I do not mean this in a mean, cruel way at ALL , I really do mean this nicely and want to help .

If you start to feel like " OH IM not losing enough " take the total # of weeks since your surgery and divide it by the amount of weight you have lost. If it Averages between 1-3 pds a WEEK your doing JUST FINE. IF not and its a little low , then see what you need to do to get it up a little .

STOP BEATING YOURSEVES UP because someone else lost more weight ONE WEEK than you did !!!!

EXPECT ONE THING FROM THE LAP BAND ... EXPECT TO LOSE , THAT'S IT JUST LOSE !

  2. Mindy, that was great advice! I have been reading Julie's blog and I sent her some advice a while back about thinking about 50 pounds as almost 17 cans of Crisco. She is doing well. I went to a real live support group and was broken by their attitude. They were snacking right at the meeting. I am convinced you do need some positive attitudes hanging around you and those become angels in this weight loss battle. I will begin to follow your blog as well. Take care.
